Iron Chef - The Elementary School Years

Local Chef Claire Criscolo teamed up with the Barnard garden crew to conduct a very local food cooking event. Using cabbages grown by Barnard students and teachers, she and group of aspiring young chefs mixed up 2 large batches of coleslaw. The delicious results were served to the whole school at lunch. The event was a hugely delicious success. We look forward to many more Iron Chef cook-offs from the barnard garden this season!

Barnard Garden Building Party Spring 2009
Dozens of students, teachers and parents gathered to build raised beds, mix soil, start compost piles, clear weeds, and jump start a great school garden. Carol Brenan, the new garden coordinator, headed up the effort with Marjorie Drucker and the whole Barnard School garden Committee. It was a beautiful day with an energize community getting their hands in the dirt!

The Barnard Garden Committee headed up by Marjorie Drucker recieved a grant through CitySeed and the Working Group on School Food to hire a part time garden coordinator and buy some basic supplies. Marjorie has continued to write grants to fund the position and keep their garden going.
